Issue #11: A filler issue where the Doom Patrol stop in Metropolis while they're on the road, and they end up running into Superman. They'd met Superman before (in the debut comic for Ambush Bug), but now Superman has to investigate them. He's got no choice, the whole country thinks they killed Rita Farr and the other original Doom Patrol members. Superman still has faith in them though. Annoyed by Superman's good-natured attitude, Mister Nobody decides to send a new menace out to mess with the Doom Patrol.
So, now introducing our newest villian…Aleuts Bitty Fore! A horribly deformed figure of the statue of liberty, only capable of speaking in the Aleut language. It's metal body has partially melted, so their torch hand is down by their waist and their crown is falling into their eyes, but that's not the really important part of this menace. No, the threat here comes from the statue's ability to generate apathy in all who see it. It drives people mad with apathy, and thus helps prepare the world for Mr. Nobody's inevitable conquest of earth.
It even affects Superman, because it turns out the torch they carry is made out of kryptonite. So with Superman and the whole of Metropolis trapped under it's sway, the Doom Patrol is put to the challenging task of destroying this statue before it does any more damage to the world at large. They manage to destroy it, just in time for their mobile hq to drive up and rescue them. And Mr. Nobody's gambit failed utterly. The people of Metropolis now trust the new Doom Patrol more than ever.
Issue #12: Since you're probably wondering where the Teens of the Doom Patrol were during all of this, this story focuses in on them. While the adult members of the Doom Patrol were busy dealing with Mr. Nobody's trap in Metropolis, the teens took the mobile hq for a joyride, driving through the countryside of Metropolis. They bond, learn about each other, and even successfully stop an extortion racket for the farming communities in the countryside.
After all of this, they realize they spent the whole day out here in the country. So they drive back to Metropolis to pick up the adults in the Doom Patrol, and that's when they discover how Metropolis was wrecked by a deformed statue of liberty clone, and the Doom Patrol had to deal with it. Shocked, the whole team just drives far away from Metropolis, baffled by the events of their day.
Issues #13-14: A timeskip of around 2 months since last issue takes place. In that two month period, the Doom Patrol has figured out where some of the Brotherhood of Evil went: Garguax is planning another attempted takeover of earth, and The Brain and Monsieur Mallah have apparently gone straight, as they agree to help the Doom Patrol take down Garguax and his plastic men. So a reluctant truce is called, one in which the Doom Patrol tries to learn if The Brain and Mallah know anything about Steve Dayton's lapse into insanity, or about the disappearance of the original Doom Patrol members.
The Brain and Mallah make it clear that they had nothing to do with any of that. The destruction of the Doom Patrol was all on Madame Rouge. She went AWOL and planned it all without the approval of the Brotherhood. The Brain found it almost distressing, to lose a worthy adversary such as The Chief. It's why he apparently went straight. He simply didn't have any good competition anymore. There was nothing there to drive him.
Either way, our team end up having to deal with Garguax, who's built an army of plastic men to conquer earth. He plans on using earth as just the start, however. From there, he'd go on to conquer galaxies and star systems aplenty. There's a whole cosmos out there for the taking, and Garguax and his loyal slaves are going to take it!
Unfortunately for him, he never counted on the Doom Patrol still existing. He hadn't heard the news of their revival, and so he thought he was safe. But no, this infernal team continues to serve as a thorn in his side! They successfully manage to defeat his army of plastic men, and they put an end to his mad dreams of conquest before they can even truly begin. Sadly, he escapes in a miniature rocket ship before they can interrogate him. But considering he's been off world for years and didn't know the Doom Patrol had re-formed, it's probably very unlikely he'd know what happened to the members of the original team. So now the team is back at square one.
Issues #15-16: If you haven't yet guessed what's going to happen from here, let me make it more clear: The Brain and Monsieur Mallah never actually went straight, and this was all a part of an elaborate scheme on their part. While the Doom Patrol battled Garguax, Monsieur Mallah snuck away and stole one of the plastic men. He then transferred his creator's brain into the plastic body. So now The Brain finally has a body again, and he's ready to bring the Brotherhood of Evil back! They'll be back, bigger and badder than ever before!
Before these two can fully put their plans in motion, however, Mister Nobody finally makes his presence known. Issue 14 ends with him freezing time as the Doom Patrol prepares to face off against the Brain and Mallah. With time frozen, he takes the time to boastfully discuss his origins. He reveals how he got his god-like reality bending powers, he reveals how he abducted the original Doom Patrol members and has since been torturing them for years. And then he reveals his masterplan: to drain the sanity of everyone on earth, and create a world of pure chaos.
And on that happy note, he summons a black hole to absorb the new Doom Patrol and his old bosses in the Brotherhood of Evil. It's time they met up with their allies/enemies, joining them in Mister Nobody's inescapable pocket dimension of madness. And on that pleasant note, the maniacal laugher of Mister Nobody ends Issue 15. We see how his madness plague is already spreading across the globe, and how the few people who might stop him (the Doom Patrol and/or the Brotherhood of Evil) are trapped in his pocket dimension.

I like it when newer characters are just so jazzed to work with an established character they don't say the name, they say the logo!
You know that that's the most excited Scott Fischer of the Doom Patrol has ever been in his LIFE!

[ image: a drawing of rhea jones, aka lodestone, with a mix of her pre- and post-metamorphosis design. she has her short red hair paired with a long braid, a smiling face with white eyes, and a large brown eye on her upper chest. she is wearing a white and blue pinstriped off-the-shoulder dress and white and blue pinstriped socks. a purple, blobby aura holds up metal objects, including large chef's knives, nails and screws, cutlery, and paperclips. there is a large pink map star under her feet. ]

rhea jones is soooo funny to me i think she should cause problems for the lantern corps 24/7. “this person is basically your planet but she’s also a teenager who was raised in a circus so she kind of fucked off to visit a particularly interesting star” is such a good concept

Issue #10: The Doom Patrol begins having to look for a new home base, since their midway city hq is under constant surveillance by Steve Dayton and his men. I almost considered introducing Danny the Street here, but the tv show version of the Doom Patrol has spoiled me in regards to them. I don't feel like they should be introduced until we've got Larry, Rita and The Chief back. So instead, I'd have the Doom Patrol using a covert mobile base for now, driving from place to place while on the run.
The only lead the Doom Patrol has regarding the location of their three missing members is that it has to be someone with ties to Madame Rouge or General Zahl, someone who could've manipulated them into attracting the Doom Patrol. The only possible people they know of with ties to Madame Rouge, however: The members of The Brotherhood of Evil. Garguax, General Immortus, Monsieur Mallah and The Brain.
But none of our members has heard of any of their recent activities. And while trying to do reconnaissance and find these criminals, the Doom Patrol ends up running into a group of young metahumans, who've banded together to become superheroes. These heroes are: Lodestone (Rhea Jones), Blaze (Scott Fischer), Karma (Wayne Hawkins) and Mind-Grabber Kid (Lucian Crawley)! These four misfit heroes all have strange and extraordinary powers: Lodestone can control the electromagnetic spectrum, Blaze can burn anything he touches, Karma can cause bad luck to affect others and the Mind-Grabber Kid is a skilled telepath. These four prove themselves to be an equal match for the Doom Patrol, whom they mistake for bad guys because of all the news reports they've seen.
But due to the timely intervention of Finnar (who now uses the codename Sprite), both sides eventually realize they're more similar than they ever realized they were before. And then they have to team up to stop a new and incredibly bizarre hitman hired by Mento (who's still under Mister Nobody's control): Shrapnel.
This story pretty much introduces us to the Doom Patrol's younger branch, who don't have a name as of yet. But Lodestone, Blaze, Karma, Sprite and the Mind-Grabber Kid make a bold new team of five misfit teens. They're pretty much an extension of the Doom Patrol, just younger.
#doom patrol#the doom patrol#you know i had to use the mind grabber kid#he showed up in one jla comic#but it's time we give him attention again#dc#dc comics#robotman#cliff steele#celsius#arani desai#tempest#joshua clay#negative woman#valentina vostok#lodestone#rhea jones#scott fischer#wayne hawkins#mind grabber kid#lucian crawley#dc headcanons#my ideas#comic ideas#fic ideas#story ideas#ideas
